Let’s make 2020 the year of the kitchen! While many trends will stay the same this year (such as all white kitchens), we’re predicting many new trends will arrive in 2020.
We predict that eco-friendly kitchens will be all the rage in 2020, as well as open storage, hidden kitchen appliances, and standout sinks.
- one – ECO-FRIENDLY KITCHENS
Making an eco-friendly kitchen isn’t as hard as it sounds. Spending a little bit of extra cash for appliances and surfaces that will last is one of the most eco-friendly things you can do in your kitchen. Looking at the energy star rating when buying appliances like microwaves and dishwashers is important as well and will save you money.
Whilst remodelling, use reclaimed materials like wood and metal. Finding second hand fittings, panelling and cabinets that have already stood the test of time will make sure you have good quality items; they simply don’t make them like they used to.
If you’re not keen on a reclaimed kitchen, perhaps using eco-friendly materials will do the trick. Surfaces made from bamboo or cork are great examples.

Open storage and shelving will be another big hit in 2020. Open plate racks and accessible open shelving are a great start. Displaying your favourite kitchen ware is also a great idea, such as cutting boards and antiques or heirlooms.
- three – HIDDEN KITCHEN APPLIANCES
Hidden kitchen appliances will also increase in popularity. Adding fronts to your appliances that mimic your cabinetry can make a sleek, uniform look. Disguising your range hood can be very cool.

Adding a standout sink to your kitchen can create a rustic or farmhouse look and brass tapware will be show stopping!
